Susan Rothenberg, renowned for her expressive Western landscapes and wildlife, particularly horses, studied at Cornell University and spent her early career in New York. In 1990, she moved to New Mexico, where she resides with artist Bruce Nauman, drawing inspiration from her surroundings. Rothenberg, influential since the 1970s, began as a 'new imagist' painter, blending abstraction and representation. Her iconic figures, concerned with light, color, and surface, are often compared to Minimalism. Works like 'Four Color Horse' subtly depict horses, while others, like 'Ring Necks, Covering', are more explicit.
